In a Cafe family, as in a regular family, there are times of stress, poignancy and moments of hilarity. You get through the difficult times, again like a family, by circling the wagons, working together and encouraging each other that, "this, too, shall pass." At the Coffee Pot, we've recently endured lot of illness that has put major stress on the whole staff. We've had people out with the flu, pneumonia, bronchitis, a collapsed lung, and one of our staff was involved in a car accident with her husband. The car was totaled but by God's grace, the only physical injury suffered was a broken finger.
One of our bakers recently had a baby boy, and the Coffee Pot family rejoiced over her uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery. (As my naive husband asked me an hour after the birth of our first child, "That wasn't so bad, was it?" It's a wonder that he lived to see three more Lockies born!)
Levity and legacy come at unexpected moments. We still laugh about the time Nick had a glass of iced tea and couldn't spit it out fast enough. "Something's wrong with this tea!" he exclaimed. When we make iced tea, we freeze some of the tea so that when we chill it the next day, we can put that block of frozen tea in the carafe and it doesn't become diluted. We also freeze our leftover pork gravy in a similar block. Yep. You guessed it. We accidentally put the pork gravy in the iced tea carafe. To those of you who have now vowed never again to order our iced tea, I can assure you that we have remedied that problem. You can rest assured that you'll always get gravy-free tea!
Our Coffee Pot family will continue to experience all of the day-to-day events which bring richness to our lives, as well as the difficulties that cause us to turn to God to get through them. Thank you for being a part of our family.
