At the end of the year when we tally up our grocery bill at the Coffee Pot Bakery Cafe, we sometimes wonder where we spent all of our money. Not so much different than a typical household budget. I asked Colette to put together a list of the typical items that we buy for our cafe and the numbers were pretty astonishing!
This was last years' 2016 tally:
Chicken: 2,412 pounds
Sausage: 2,473 pounds
Pulled Pork: 1,440 pounds
Flour: 13,998 pounds
Sugar: 7,980 pounds
Chocolate Chips: 1,459 pounds
Milk: 1,512 gallons
Butter: 1,200 pounds
Eggs: 30,480
Coffee: 1,460 pounds
These are just some of the major things that go into our recipes. It was a telling list of products and certainly put my puny household grocery budget in its place. In addition to the large quantities of ingredients used, our bakers and cooks spend countless hours preparing these items to go into our hand made chicken pot pies, pies, biscuits and gravy, soups and a variety of other items.
I still remember the early days when I was doing all of the cooking and baking. The tally for those days would be pathetically low in comparison and I am quite glad for our amazing bakers who do it all now!
