One of my favorite jobs in overseeing The Coffee Pot Bakery Café and Mountain Arts Pottery (we are two companies under one roof) is called “quality control”. This involves the serious responsibility of tasting our product so that I can give our head baker my assessment of the food. I feel that it is important to sample a wide variety of our foods on a consistent basis, especially as we turn over these different recipes to our cooks to teach them how to follow the recipe. It is always a temptation to add just a little extra of something, which in most cases doesn’t change much unless it is something like adding cayenne to the barbeque sauce making it not just spicy, but overly hot and unpleasant to the general public.
It is my job as well to taste the pastries and different pies, cakes and cookies that we make. I now need to walk an extra mile a day just to keep my weight down! It’s worth it, though and is still the best job in the world. - Dave Lockie (Owner/ Taste Tester) Comments are closed.
